About this tool

Enter distance traveled, fuel used, and fuel price to calculate economy in km/L and L/100 km. The calculator also shows total fuel cost and cost per kilometer. For fill-to-fill measurements, use consistent fueling conditions.

Kilometers per liter is distance divided by fuel used; liters per 100 km is fuel used divided by distance times 100. Fuel cost is liters multiplied by price per liter.

For fill-to-fill measurement, refuel under similar conditions each time. Combining several fills usually reduces the effect of one imperfect fill.

Traffic, temperature, tires, load, and climate control affect economy. Tolls, parking, maintenance, and depreciation are not included in cost per kilometer.

FAQ
How is km per liter calculated?
Divide distance traveled by fuel used. Driving 500 km with 40 L gives 12.5 km/L.
What does it cost to drive 100 km?
At 20 km/L, 100 km uses 5 L. With a fuel price of 180 per liter, the cost is 900.
What does L/100 km mean?
It is the fuel needed to travel 100 km. It can be calculated as 100 divided by km/L, and a lower figure means less fuel used.
How is fill-to-fill economy measured?
Divide distance since the previous full tank by the amount added at the next fill. Similar fill conditions and several combined fills help reduce error.
